Union Grove Baptist Church is fighting local hunger in Jemison schools with a great program called Back Pack Buddies. The program discretely provides food for the weekend to children in need. While students are outside of the classroom, teachers slip the food bags into the backpacks of children who have been identified as ones who may not have food over the weekend.
Keri Calloway said churches interested in supporting such a program, but not ready to take on such a project, could contribute to the Union Grove Back Pack Buddies program.
The program is funded through donations and fundraising.
