You've heard of these yellow jacket "super nests" but more are showing up all around Alabama! Dr. Charles Ray from Auburn University examined one found in Shelby County. Dr. Ray says many people are hitting these nests with rocks and even setting them on fire but if you see one, you should leave it alone!
Dr. Ray requested that anyone who thinks they have discovered a perennial nest, not a typical smaller nest, to contact him at raychah@aces.edu or at raychah@auburn.edu so he can study the nest.
