Does Alexa have First Amendment rights? Maybe! Currently, the Amazon virtual assistant is in the middle of a legal battle between the company and Arkansas state police. Victor Collins was found dead in James Bates' hot tub back in 2015, and Bates has been charged in his friend's murder. Police believe an Amazon Echo that was inside the home could be the key to the crime, and they have requested 48 hours worth of audio from Amazon. But Amazon isn't giving up the fight so easily. They have filed a 90 page motion stating that the audio recordings are protected under the First Amendment.
We'll soon find out if the police are actually able to use the audio that Alexa may or may not have recorded!
