On August 1st, Kelly Rountree was playing darts with his daughter when he heard a “muffled cry for help” coming from Stansbury Lake, near his home in Stansbury Park, Utah. Rountree didn't hesitate to respond to the cry, quickly rushing to his car and driving around the lake where he found a paralyzed woman belted to her wheelchair, trapped in the water.
Acting quickly, Rountree took off the woman’s seat belt and held her head above the water. Moments later, rescuers arrived at the lake and were able to take over, getting the woman safely out of the water.
Later, the North Tooele Fire District took to social media to “thank and recognize” Rountree for his actions, calling him a "hero" for saving the woman. “This is a perfect example of people helping people,” the post reads, “And while Kelly is very humble about his role in this, we have no problem calling him a hero.”
