Last week, a U.S. Coast Guard crew was patrolling the sound between the shore and North Carolina’s Outer Banks when they heard a call over their radio about a lost dog named Myla. Moments later, lookouts on the Coast Guard boat spotted a dog swimming toward their vessel, they picked up Myla, and returned her to her owners. It turns out, Myla’s a pretty lucky pup, because Pamlico Sound where she was picked up is no small body of water, measuring nearly 100 miles long and up to 25 miles wide at places.
