Is *NSYNC Planning A Comeback Without Justin Timberlake?

Bye, Bye, Bye, JT.

Fans may have to get used to *NSYNC without Justin Timberlake.

If the '90s boy band's Weekend One Coachella appearance, which took place during Ariana Grande's headlining set, proved anything, its that they can still be *NSYNC as a quartet.

As fans know, *NSYNC hit the Coachella stage without JT, who was on his own solo tour, on April 14 for their first performance since they broke up in 2002. JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Joey Fatone joined Ariana to perform her hit "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored" and their own smash single "Tearin’ Up My Heart," and received quite the positive reception. So much so, according to sources, "the group and its team is taking a look at a more prolonged return," Billboard reports.

"There’s such a hunger now for great pop, for nostalgia," one industry insider told the site. "It’s almost like a warm, comfortable blanket, especially for the generation that grew up with them, who are now moms and dads. The timing is right."

And a comeback may be possible even without JT. "The four of them would be great," said Brad Wavra, Senior VP of touring at Live Nation, who served as *NSYNC’s promoter throughout their original run in the late 1990s and early 2000s. "There’s no denying the talent that Justin has, but the four of them together proved it [at Coachella]: the music sounded great, they looked great, the fan response was awesome and I think that that would be the same all across America."

Fans and industry folks aren't the only ones asking for a reunion sans JT. Fellow boy-bander Nick Carter tweeted on Saturday (April 20) that he'd be down for a four-member *NSYNC collaboration with his group the Backstreet Boys. "The world of pop needs this to happen," he tweeted in response to a Rolling Stone article about "Why ‘NSync should tour without Justin Timberlake."

"I’d go and watch them," Nick continued. "Hell, maybe one day we could even do an #nsyncbackstreetTour or #nsyncbackstreetsong together #nsync #bringthemback #ourboys #90smusic #nsyncbackstreetboys #BackstreetBoys."

While *NSYNC didn't reply, band member Joey sure did, and he didn't say a four-member *NSYNC reunion was off the table. "Hey we still have other Colabs [sic] we have not finished yet before u can think of other things lol," he wrote. (Cue the infamous Dumb and Dumber line: "so you're telling me there's a chance?!")
