On September 13th, Sergeant Michael Peterson with the Lawrenceville, Georgia, Police Department spotted a car speeding down the highway and pursued it only to find the car had crashed just down the road. In body and dashcam footage posted online by Lawrenceville PD, you can see officers pulling up to the overturned vehicle on the side of the highway.
As the officers approached, several young men crawled out of the backseat of the overturned car asking for help for the driver who was pinned between the vehicle and the ground, unable to breathe. Under Peterson’s direction, the young men and another officer attempted to lift the car, but it proved too heavy. Fortunately, another car of good Samaritans and three more officers arrived and the group was able to lift the vehicle enough to pull the driver safely out.
The Lawrenceville Police Department praised the effort, writing that the "heroic actions by Lawrenceville Police Officers and good Samaritans saved a driver's life." The 19-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment. Although he will face charges for reckless driving and other offenses, his rescuers undoubtedly saved his life.
