The Birmingham Water Works Board is considering ending all service outside of Jefferson County, according to a report in the Birmingham News. The board Friday voted to study the idea. It is in response to a bill sponsored by state Sen. Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia). The bill expands the size of the board, to give representation to customers in all areas served by the BWWB. The bill is strongly opposed by the city of Birmingham, which currently appoints all of the board's members, even though most water customers do not live in the city.
